How to read & interpret snow forecasts & work out where to go ? (Being a thickie)

Decided we must have a ski holiday this year having ummed & ahhed about it for the last 8 or so years.

We have time constraints due to Dh's work & school 1/2 term, so only options will be last minute. (Unless we go in the Easter hols). Unfortunately I can't seem to get my head around where to find out where generally has good, reliable snow & where I can easily see & understand current & up to date snow fall

Coud someone very kindly point me in the right direction...or preferably provide links ?

Try skiclub.co.uk which is the ski club of Great Britain. Take a look at their snow forecasts

I reckon that Feb half term this year will be particularly busy for Brits, as everywhere seems to have the same week allocated. Often, it's spread out nationwide over two weeks. France always "zones" theirs over three weeks, one of which always coincides with the UK and there's no escaping it.

thanks for the links....I've spent at least 7 hours searching for 'the perfect place'. BUT we have decided to pull the DC out of school.

DH has given up & has his eye on the menus in a hotel in Norway, whereas I'm trying to work out why ski school for kids in Austria is 4 hrs, but only 1.5 in Norway...anyone know why ?

Also wondering whether to go as cheap as possible, in case there is no snow or join in with a chalet, but then will my DC's be expected to not eat with us ? And will we have to make polite convesation...eeek..

Alternatively self catering, so not much of a change for me...going out in the evenings will be hassle...urgh....I'm turning into a zombie...

In the chalets I have eaten in, kids can either eat early or with you - depends on how hungry they are! I love Austria by the way

Yes, like Clam says, Easter means a high resort needed. I have never fancied Norway, apparently short runs and extortionate booze prices. Most chalets let DCs eat with adults but a few don't, so worth checking. We have always had a lot of fun with fellow chaletians, most people who sign up for that sort of holiday are likely to be cheerful sociable souls. We have never self catered for the same reasons which make you wary.
Pull those kids out of school if you dare and well done, plenty to learn on a ski holiday.

Thanks all for advice, I still can't interpret snow reports, but have downloaded something on my phone which pings when snow has fallen !

We've now booked a hotel Norway with 1/2 board. I wanted somewhere not busy &, taking your point about drink, will take some supplies from duty free & a hip flask !

Dd's booked into ski school & will miss 4 days from actual school....£k cheaper. I've suggested older dd does a project about Norway over 1/2 term.

Btw short runs are good - I'm 9 years old of practice & don't want to put my dd's off.

Luckily there's been no snow here (in the South, anyway) this winter, as it's been a nightmare getting snowboots the last few years as many places had sold out after the first flake fell. You can always get them on-line, but you need to be confident re: sizes.

Yes, finding quite a few around. Just recieved a bargain pair from regatta outlet but unfortunately too big & slipping off DD's foot. Am going to ask her to try them again with thick sock though.
