Are you generally a:

*read only original post, and then reply?

*read most/all of the thread before posting a response?

Explain.

depends...sometimes get over excited and impatient and need to post straight away- other times I'm more considered

Definitely a read most/all of the thread before posting a response. Things can move on a lot from the op, I find. Though if it's a really long thread, over about 40 messages, it has to look really interesting for me to open it these days, as I know it could take me a long time to get through it.

If I want to state my pure unsullied opinion, I post state away. If it is a delicate matter, I tend to try to read to see if I can actually help.

Normally I read the whole thing.

If you only read the OP and then comment, you risk making a twat of yourself as the conversation with inveriably (sp?) have evolved, or you'll be repeating a dozen people, or you'll ask a question that's already been answered.

Besides, it's like walking into a pub, going up to a group of people and butting into the middle of their conversation with a reply to something you heard one of them say yesterday.

A bit rude, a bit nutty and a bit pointless.

I'm a squiffy lovely poster

I'm definitely a 'read entire thread first' person, though if it's a delicate/complicated topic, the thread can have progressed while I've spent time composing a thoughtful reply.

I'm also generally interested in what people have to say because it helps me get to 'know' members of our Mumsnet community, and often causes me to learn something I hadn't known before - or at least see something from a different perspective than my own.

I read the whole post meticulesly (sp!), then comment, then look at it again about an hour later.

Then forget about it for days

short attention span, moi?

Depends how long the thread is and how interested I am in it - a bit of both. (Haven't read this one btw!)

A poster whose internet has been broken all weekend

I read the thread unless it's massive (but I consider massive to be more like 200 posts) and even then I skim... I hate it when the OP has said "actually, yeah, I meant to say X not Y" 10 posts in and people are still grumping about a misunderstanding in the OP.

I try and read every post. Literally. I do skim, once they get into the 100's. I def read the last 20. Actually I very rarely post on the very long threads, like JackieNo.

Yes, if a thread title doesn't 'grab' me, I don't click on it. But, once I see that the thread is 'off and running' with many replies, I'll often look to see what it is so many others are finding compelling.

Depends how long the thread is. If I feel I can help but is really long I will leave it as I am sure I would be repeating what everyone else has already said.

Sometimes I read the OP and have to reply straight away.

I skim read the thread, unless really long. I don't post unless I think I have something extra to add...
