TECH - PARASITE REDIRECTION to another website

slim22 · 17/11/2007 00:52

www.adviva.com

Is this site related to mumsnet in anyway?

I've been redirected to that website when accidentaling clicking on the active convos page.

This is very weird.
Happened a few times over last week.
Now just realised it only happens when I log on to mumsnet, on a specific page.

It happens on the active convos page
If you click under the discount banner under boden/cottages 4you.

I'm not exactly computer litterate but this is no coincidence. Happens everytime I repeat the experience and on no other page.

??????????

Slim, this has happened to me before, I think they advertise at the edge of the page - so I didn't realise I had clicked on the ad iyswim.

There was something yesterday though, I clicked on a link to 'Next' as someone had linked to some baby clothes, and got that pop up saying 'the website is trying to close this page' or something.
I clicked on cancel and got taken to Next and MN disappeared, so I had to do 'back' to get back to MN.

That's never happened before but could be related to the Next site rather than MN, as in you're not allowed to link to them in a new page, you have to give them your undivided attention

Hi there, this isn't happening when I try it - so I'll get Tech to take a look. Think I'm right in saying that adviva is nothing sinister... I think it might be a way of companies tracking where the click through's they get are coming from. Tch will know for sure though.

Columbia, I have always had problems with Next, links to it used to open in the same window rather than a new one like every other link - I think it's them.

Oh thanks Lapinia, hmm Next are very sneaky aren't they!
I like your new name

Thanks Abby too!

Ok thks, as long as tech knows it's nothing untoward.

Remember being redirected to a porn website once at work in the middle of a presentation......

I accidentally typed my nickname into my search engine and was given a couple of links to my posts on MN. When I clicked on them, I found I was already "logged in", in spite of having not actually been logged into MN - if that makes sense. Should that happen??

Oops - sorry - meant to start a new thread, not hijack this one. I am a bit nonplussed by finding myself logged in without actually doing it.....

Hi there, adviva is an ad-serving company. They do carry some of our ads so if you click an ad space you might get to them if there's no ad in it at that time.

on the next point, the next website does seem to be a bit naughty if you try to link to it with the link set to a new window - it sort of hijacks your other windows. I'm not sure who they think they are, harrumph.

tbh I find it surprising that they would deliberately annoy people in that way - especially as they are about to (hoping to at least) ask for your credit card details when you order - the last thing they should be doing is making your computer act weird and so making you suspicious. All of which makes me think it might just be a mistake on their part. Dunno.

hi 3littlefrogs, that would happen if last time you logged into Mumsnet you set the "remember me" box to yes. If you don't want to be logged in automatically, click "log out" on the right of the blue bar towards the top of the page. That will clear the "memory" and you won't get logged in automatically any more.

Hi Tech....if users download the google toolbar, the ads still work but their windows aren't closed when they don't want them too because there is a neat bit of code which manages the toggling controls. (I blardy hate those ad servers that do this, it's so unnecessary.)

Report

Didn't think you were. Am surprised though, my google toolbar zapped everything back in the days when I was on the PC. Are you able to snapback on your browser to a previous page? (ie when you go somewhere you didn't intend to, by holding down on the back button, see a list of pages you've been on and go right back to where you were?)
