I'd vote for that.

Me, too.

It's whingey.

I know what you mean - but do you think most of the AIBU threads just wouldn't happen without it, or would they go in chat or something?

WigWamBam · 12/05/2007 20:13

Oh yes, please!

I'm starting to agree.

Apart from anything else, it makes it harder to find threads on something specific because so many are posted under AIBU when they would really be better in the appropriate topic - 'am I being unreasonable to wean at 4 months'-type thing (not a real example but you see what I mean).

I also suspect it encourages people to be unreasonable. I liked the idea at first but it does seem to have had a negative effect overall.

Maybe not get rid, but have a check box at the top so you can exclude it from active conversations......

But we had AIBU threads before there was a section, so I think we'd still end up having them but just in a diff section.

Report
Kathyis6incheshigh · 12/05/2007 20:15

There would still be lots, but perhaps not so many?

Alternatively, we could all just post 'Yes you are!' every single time someone starts one.

Report
WendyWeber · 12/05/2007 20:16

Surely we got the section in the first place because of all the threads labelled "am I being unresonable no 75936"?

Report
Tamum · 12/05/2007 20:17

Oh, I'm with you on this one. Yes, we had these threads before but nowhere near as many, and with not such dogmatic kneejerk responses quite often.

Report
FrannyandZooey · 12/05/2007 20:18

I must say it does tend to make you respond more irrationally somehow if people say "yes you are"

for some reason it makes you feel that you have some kind of MN backing to your ridiculous whining

I speak from bitter experience

foxinsocks · 12/05/2007 20:20

get rid get rid

Report
Porpoise · 12/05/2007 20:21

so Franny, were you the one responding irrationally or whining ridiculously

Report
Tamum · 12/05/2007 20:22

Tell you what, you can do a controlled experiment. Start this thread again in AIBU entitled "To want to abolish the AIBU section" and then wait for it to degenerate. We can help under pseudonyms if you like.

Report
Tamum · 12/05/2007 20:22

If it's the one I'm thinking of she wasn't whining at all, quite the reverse.

ah the irrational response was also from the ridiculous whiner, in my example

does that clear things up a bit?

Report
foxinsocks · 12/05/2007 20:24

another change I would make (I know this is a bit me me me me but I figure I'll add it to this thread) it to get those ante and post natal threads off the main chat board

however I am not sure if we can put the lid back on Pandora's box of unreasonableness

Report
Ceolas · 12/05/2007 20:24

I vote for scrapping it too.

Report
Tamum · 12/05/2007 20:25

Ah, I may be talking about something else- I thought your garlic thread was in AIBU F&Z, and that's what you meant. In which you weren't whining.
