Site freezing my computer

Hi,

The past few days I've had a problem whereby my computer has been freezing up whenever I've not actively used it for a minute or so. Usually, I have Mumsnet open as well as email and possibly another 2 sites.

Today, I've tried them all out individually, left it for several minutes each time, and the computer has worked fine when left with each of the sites still logged on to individually - apart from Mumsnet.

The computer just freezes when left idle for a minute or more if the Mumsnet site is logged on to. It then takes between 7-10 minutes for full operating service to resume, once i go back to it.

Is, or has anyone else having this problem please?

Hi there,

That sounds really strange. What browser are you using to view the site?

Sounds a bit odd. Any signs of excessive heat coming from fan?

Are you seeing animated adverts?

Hi Amy,
I use firefox on a windows 7 . I've never had trouble before like this before, and have checked for viruses etc, but nothing there.

Only thing I can think of is to try to find out more about what is causing it by looking in the event log. Note the time that things crash, then once you regain access look in the event log.

Accessing Event Log in Windows 7:
Open the Start Menu, type eventvwr.msc, and press Enter.
Wait a while... then in the left pane, select Windows Logs, System
In the middle pane, look at the events around the time of the crash.

Alas no idea what to look for specifically. See if anything jumps out at you, such as system was trying to load a driver, or start something.

Thanks for that nanny, I shall try that later.

Pricilla - you say you had this too -was it recent like mine, or longer term?

Wonder if FireFox has been updated in past few days, maybe it has made an extension/plugin not function correctly. Could be worth disabling plugins/extensions and seeing if that makes things better. Try Firefox in Safemode (see Firefox Troubleshooting for details).
