I have mentioned on other 'this isn't working' threads but some of the other issues have been resolved now, so I'm not sure what's happening (if anything) with this problem.

I can't post without faffing about.

I write the post, click on 'send' then it comes up asking me if I want to open, save or cancel, so I x that, then I have to refresh the page before I post?

Anyone else getting this?

Last year when this (or something very similar) happened we had to go and reset something on our computers, but I can't remember what it was - can anyone else?

It sounds as though the browser is trying to download the script (or JSON result).

Unsure of cause but I would suspect you may be running an old browser.

What browser are you using and what version?
//www.whatbrowser.org - click it, report back what it says.

Hi LatteLover,
Sorry we haven't got to this yet, there is, as you can probably guess, quite a considerable list for the Techs to get through. So many browsers, phones etc, it's taking longer than it should have done and we're sorry about that. It will already be on The Giant List of Doom if you have mentioned it before but I can re-report it for you just to be sure.

Oh yes, and like nannynick says, could you tell us what browser etc, please?

NannyNick - IE9

Helen - yes, if you could report it again that would be great, thank you - just incase it got lost in the 'Threads started by' issue.

I am just trying to stay on top of it this time as last time it happened I was suffering through it for AGES then stumbled on a thread where it had been resolved but I needed to do xyz on my computer. I don't want that happening again as it's bloody painful! Grin

IE9 is quite old. See if your system is able to run Windows Update.

Are you on Windows XP or Vista? If Vista then I think that will run Chrome browser, so you could try downloading that and use instead of IE9.

NannyNick

I have google chrome on my laptop and I have just tried it, it did solve the problem but I hate using it. So do you think there might be a setting on IE9 that I can change. I wish I could remember what the 'fix' was last year!! (I know it might not be the same, but it would be somewhere to start!).

Microsoft are no longer providing you with updates for Internet Explorer for Windows Vista users. Your ONLY choice is to use a different browser, as you will find more and more websites which won't work correctly.

Note to MNHQTech: Can you change response from server to text/javascript where browser is IE8/IE9?

LatteLover - if you are happy to edit the registry (back it up first!) then this may fix things. CodeProject
Important: Looks like it HAS NOT been tested on Vista. So proceed at your own risk.

If you have to use IE9, then perhaps see if Mumsnet Mobile is usable.

Note: to get back to Desktop version, scroll all the way to the bottom of the page where there is a link. Desktop Version

Nick thank you :)

My laptop isn't healthy, so I don't really want to mess around with editing the registry etc as I am worried it wont have the space to do it and it will just have a melt down :(

I will persevere with Chrome for a few days and see how I go. As much as I hate hate it, it is running better, so I might just have to bite the bullet.

Thanks again for all your help Brew

This is happening to me too,and we have IE9 I hate Chrome and everytime I have an issue the answer seems to be "use Chrome!"

The answer is to upgrade IE to the latest version but Microsoft have made that impossible for those on Windows Vista. So alas the only solution so far is that when a site does not work as you expect it to, then use a different browser (Chrome is currently know to work on Vista) or hope that the website developer will somehow change things in terms of how users of IE9 get sent data.

Developers can not develop sites for all browsers, at some point older browsers get to a point where they are no longer compatible.

Perhaps MumsnetTech will look into if they can create a special script for IE9 which resolves this problem but it would only apply on here, not other websites which use JSON.

LifeHuh Yep. I am putting up with it for the moment, but it's horrible.

MNHQ are you able to do what Nick has suggested?? Please :)
