i've come back to the computer due to not being keen on the mobile app and all of a sudden i'm having issues posting - everytime i press to post i get a message from mumsnet which is a file that norton wants me to either save or run. if i click 'cancel' instead i can then refresh the page and my message appears, but it's a pain in the arse. what's wrong???

thanks.

the file is a list of numbers and letters without a suffix.

Hi there, is there any chance you can post up a screenshot of the message you're getting?

Yes, ok. I'll screenshot the one that comes up when I press post on this message... then i'll need to post another message to upload it...

Get rid of Norton. Dreadful rubbish. Download AGV instead.

I've been happy with norton for years, i find it the best way to manage my backup (i work from this computer too). the only time i took the 'dump norton switch to avg' advise my computer ground to a halt and i had to re-install everything.
And i'm not going to change my virus/security/backup software just so i can mumsnet!!!

Sorry you're struggling with this folks. Bit of a shot in the dark here - but is the date and time correct on your computer? Apparently this can cause issue with security certificates etc, so might be causing this problem?

Have checked date and time and both are spot on.

I had this same problem a few months ago when the "like" "tweet" etc buttons were first installed. At the time your Tech department sorted it out, IIRC we had to give OS and IE details.

It is making it quite difficult to post, so what should we do please?

I can't check mine now but I'm sure it's right as I use it for internet banking which has extra security.
I am on vista still though - is that an issue?

This is most likely due to using Internet Explorer version 8 or version 9 (IE8/IE9).

If you have Windows Vista, then Microsoft are no longer providing you with updates for Internet Explorer. Your ONLY choice is to us a different browser, as you will find more and more websites which won't work correctly.

Google Chrome does work on Vista, so whilst I know some people do not like Chrome, if you are using Vista then you really need to start liking Chrome.

If you do not know what version of Windows you are using or the version of web browser, then Click This Link and it should tell you (if it can work it out from what your system tells the website).

If you have Windows 7, then run Windows Update and install all updates.

Thank you nannynick.

I have chrome. I guess I'll switch over to using that instead of IE.

Any idea how long vista will be able to stumble along? Is it really obsolete?

Vista support will end in 2017 according to ZDnet article. Until then you will continue to get security updates.

MIME type however is not a security thing, so it may or may not ever get updated. There is a registry hack that might work but it's not without risk (editing registry is always risky). Details are in the other thread having a problem posting on a laptop. If you decide to risk that, please do a full backup FIRST.
