secret santa question

Am wondering if the recipients know their name before receiving their gift? Am sending a gift to be signed for and would like to check with the recipient if any day is better/worse than others, if that is possible :)

The whole point of SS is that you do NOT know who gives it.

If recipient want to try to work out their giver, or the giver chooses to tell, then that comes AFTER opening.

Only posted under my normal name cos I was on my phone and changing my nn on there is a pain and a half. What I was planning on was contacting MNxxxx as my Secret santa name, asking if there were any days she was/wasnt in to receive a signed for package, and would send it to coincide. As it happens my housemate posted it whilst I was at work today, which was extremely kind and helpful, but means I cannot try and make sure the recipient will be there the day it arrives. As it has been sent to the mumsnetter of the house, it will have to be redelivered if there isnt anyone in, as it isnt possible to collect from the sorting office as the recipient wont have id in the name of 'mumsnetter of the house'

As it's already been sent now, you could post - in your SS NN - a message to your MN SS recipient telling her that it's now been posted.

This is the thread to post on www.mumsnet.com/Talk/Christmas/1882542-Christmas-Appeal-Thank-You-thread-2013?pg=1

Did your housemate send it 'Signed For'? If so there will be a 'track & trace' number (it's called the Barcode (number) on the receipt). You could ask your recipient to PM you and then you can PM her the 'track & trace' number.

Yes, signed for :), and can happily post, but it'll only work if my recipient knows her recipient nn. There is no point me posting if she doesn't find out her recipient nn until the parcel arrives, as she then won't know I am talking to her. Which kinda brings me back to my original question. Are the recipients notified of their nn before they receive a letter/packet/parcel address to their recipient name?

Yes. When your recipient received her notification from HQ and give back her address, she received her MN SS Name.

Thank you Tee :) Once I get access to a non-mobile internet connection I will contact her (in my ss guise) and let her know.

SandyMNHQ has been super-super brilliant this year Cake Wine [GIN]

Once she'd finished her spreadsheet, she told the recipients their numbers - which are the same as the donators' numbers, i.e. the last four digits are the same.

So, if you are, say, SS1234 then your recipient will be MN1234 - IYSWIM?

And yes, Gin Chocolate Cake Thanks Wine and even a Bear to SandyMumsnet for being a fantastic organiser, even saving the day after the computer said 'NO'. It is much appreciated by all

Correct FruOla.
Just to add, some folk get more than one gift.so will have more than one MNcode.
And thanks for such kind words.
