HQ, you are lovely but do you have to do the 'cough' thing?

I know I am not terribly quick on the uptake, but I can't be the only person who finds it really confusing?

When you just post 'cough' do you mean the OP is dodgy, that someone is getting cross, that you think both sides should play nice - what?! And does it count as a warning if someone 'ignores' a cough (because they have no earthly idea what it's about and don't realize it's aimed at them?).

I can see it must sometimes feel to you as if it's completely obvious who is out of order but if it were that obvious to everyone posting you'd have no job to do!

I really don't mean this in a nasty way and hope you won't take it as such.

Point taken. Sometimes it's nice for folk to know we're around and we're keeping an eye on things so it's a little like an 'ahem' or our 'peace and love', or in my case I do actually have a cough. Blush

But does it count as a warning?

The cough is code for "we can still see you, you know". My kids all went through a stage of thinking because they couldn't see me then I couldn't see them - it's that.

But I assume it's aimed collectively. It's a general "watch yourselves, folks" cough. I think.

Yeeeeeessss ... except I reckon on average we are over the age where we need to know that.

And if you were a newbie who innocently assumed MNHQ didn't moderate, I'm not sure a cough would tell you.

Oh, ok, it's just me being a grumpy sod, I get it. Blush

I agree LRD. I'm never sure what they are coughing at.

Oh, thank you.

No, not a warning at all, sometimes it's can be a friendly 'hello' which can sometimes help a thread stay on track or help folk to remember the talk guidelines, as Hassled says. We apologise if we've hinted that anyone is dodgy, that was never and will never be our intention.

You're not a grumpy sod, not at all. There's nothing wrong with feedback if it helps. Wine?

It's like when someone at HQ used to link a picture of Robert de Niro doing that I'm Watching You face in Meet the Parents

It depends when it's appropriate. Wink

Olivia started 'ahem' as a way to say 'I'm watching you know!'

I do agree it's a bit weird on a supposedly unmoderated board.

Olivia is off having twins at the moment. She'll be back. Eventually.

HQ did that?!

Why the buggery fuck did you stop that?! It's awesome. Grin

I did know about Olivia's twins. Do we have insider info on how she is doing?

Different threads require a different 'ahem', 'cough', 'peace and love' or whatever.

Start a thread and ask her. Olivia has eyes and ears everywhere so she'll stop by.

Last I heard she was trying to cook them another week. That was just about a week ago.
