Changing username on Mumsnet Local

Somehow I've managed to get a different username for the Local boards but I'd like to change it so that it's the same. Can't for the life of me figure out how to do it though. Could someone point me in the right direction? Cheers!

Hello hello

Right: at the moment, MNers can't change their own Local nicknames. You can, though, ask us to do it for you (by reporting one of your own posts and putting the request in the comment box, or by emailing us at [email protected]).

We don't let you change your own Local nicknames for two reasons:

  1. For a while now, we've been getting quite a lot of emails from frustrated new joiners who are finding that all the nicknames they'd like to use are taken. We reckon this is down in part to the fact that we allow MNers to namechange at will (so long as they're not doing so to mislead) - meaning that literally millions of nicknames are forever unavailable to anyone else. While we know how valuable the namechange facility is to MNers, we didn't want to compound this situation by allowing Local posters to endlessly namechange as well.

  2. Because a lot of posting in Local is to do with reviewing or discussing local businesses, products, events and so on, we thought that making it difficult to namechange would discourage those who, ahem, might not have the most honest intentions (ie those who want to undermine a competitor's business, or do unpaid or inappropriate promotion of their own).

All that said, we will always try to accommodate folks who have a good reason to name change, so do feel free to contact us to ask. We will see how it goes - if there's huge demand for nickname changing in MN Local then we'll look at it again.

    Thanks
    MNHQ
