Do you want to run a Mumsnet Local site?

EmmaMumsnet · 04/09/2013 11:19

Do you need a new packet of biscuits project to perk up Autumn and beyond?

Mumsnet Local is expanding all the time and we are looking for new Local Editors. Our current team of brilliant and dedicated Local Editors make sure their site is full of relevant listings, encouraging local Mumsnetters and businesses to post listings and reviews on the site and filling the gaps, so it's a useful community hub for local parents.

They also oversee Local Ambassadors, who are busy organising meet-ups all over the country, as well as encouraging community links locally. What Local Editors can't do is see anyone's private Mumsnet membership details or posting history (sorry, only the Community team are allowed in there).

We don't expect Local Editors to do all this for free; Local Editors get revenue from Local advertising and offers.

We know we're not quite there with Local yet, but we're moving along, and we're on the brink of launching some whizzy new stuff that Tech's been putting together in a bunker all summer.

We've pasted a list of the sites needing Local Editors below so if you're interested in finding out more please email [email protected] with 'interested in becoming a Local Editor' in the subject field.

Some of the sites are still a bit empty, so take a look around Kent to see what a site looks like when it's populated with meet-ups, listings, Local Talk, Offers, etc:

Ideally you would have had some experience in a media, advertising sales or organisational role and be able to spell, but bags of enthusiasm and strong community links can go a long way to making a local site a success.

I would be interested but can't see Stoke Newington so guess you are sorted for there

Hmmm... this thread has just prompted me to check out my local site.

Despite supposedly being "active" there is hardly anything there. According to MN local, despite living in a largish city there are no children's centres, no private schools, only one soft play and one park and no local attractions. Hmm

Not exactly inspiring is it? I think MN is flogging a dead horse with this one.

Hi Janx, Stoke Newington comes within the Hackney site and yes, we've got someone there at the moment.

Erm, there is no flogging of any sort AnneEyhtMeyer Wink Grin - Local is in its infancy but growing all of the time.

It may be that your area doesn't have an Editor as yet or that folks haven't uploaded the listings for those specifics, please do feel free to add any, it's a huge team effort and it would be great if you'd add local-to-you info in.

There is an editor, if that is the person whose posts are coloured in the local threads.

Maybe flogging would make it more popular? Grin

Hi, I would love to do Herefordshire or Gloucestershire as I live between the two and find that there is never anything going on in Herefordshire and very little my side of Gloucestershire.

Who do I need to get in touch with ?

Might do Highland but lumping in "and islands" gives a geographical area bigger than Wales and no chance at all! Might be more interested if you broke it up a bit.

AnneEyhtMeyer- give Local a chance. It's a work in progress. Mumsnet was started in 2000 and took years to get going, but look at it now!

The site you mention might not have many listings yet, but there's probably some brand new editor trying to figure it all out and take it all on single handedly.
