oo weird - i haven't got any popup blocking software on my puter ... does it block banner ads as well?

Report
pie · 11/02/2004 11:02

No I still get the banner adds.

I know that there isn't anything running in the background...Dh reformatted last night so everything is shiny new and clean.

I don't get any pop ups within the talk section. Could there be something that's confusing the pop up stopper?

No I was getting loads before I installed the pop up stopper too.

Have you run one of those "spy software spotter" programmes? Could something have slipped past the disc reformatting (which I thought was impossinle, I must say!)

Report
pie · 11/02/2004 11:12

Yep everytime here too. Is it the online banking one you get twiglett?

AOL has a pop-up blocker as part of the personal settings although the default is not to block. It works very well (now I've set it!) Do other ISPs have one?

Yes I have spy software installed too Soupy, and a firewall. The first thing I did after DH finished the reformat was log on here, having forgotten to install the pop up stopper and it went pop up crazy!

Just checked 135 block ups stopped from Mumsnet this morning alone...6 total from everywhere else I have gone today.

this might be totally wrong, but i've noticed i get the online banking one on the MN homepage, which i close, then i don't get it again even when i return to the homepage - just wondering if it sets a cookie or something which remembers that you've already seen it and doesn't pop it up again

I get the online banking survey once, but only once.

Report
justiner · 11/02/2004 11:29

Hi all,
Yes we have a pop up survey campaign running at the moment - but it should only appear once as you say. Hope it's not too much of a bother but you know, needs must and all that!

Twiglett we get paid per page impression - ie doesn't matter if filled or not in BUT over the long term our value (and therefore prices) goes up if people fill surveys in.
Best,
Justine
