Hello

Just to let you know that we are dealing and exterminating; thanks for all the reports. Hope you'll understand if we don't have time to come on to all the various different threads about this right now.

{{{{{{{{Hugs}}}}}}}}}}}

Don't eat any of the spam, or your thighs will expand.

Most of its gone now so well done. During the night it was every single thread and we all had to huddle up one one thread together like there was a war on.

Well, I could have stepped outside into the 30 degree sunshine

Good luck, RowanMumsnet and the rest!

Here's hoping you have lots of chocolate and Wine to help you get through it all!

Well done. They are tedious, aren't they? Don't worry about coming onto threads or responding personally to reports - I'm sure we're all just glad you are there with your bug-gun blasting them away.

We are all i expect just gald the spambots have been stopped, at least till next time they visit.

Keep up the good work, hope it does not take hours.

Rowan is it useful for us to report every single one we see? Or in situations like this is it fair to asume if we see them, you do too?
Thanks for sorting this out. Though I do worry about what we'll all do when we fancy watching sport but can't think how.

Might I suggest you pipe excellent song gently across MNHQ.

All together now...

Spam it's pink and it's oval, it's made in Chernobyl, SPAM!!

Would you like every single one reported, or just one each time we spot a new batch? There's a huge batch in AIBU but I've only reported one of them - is that enough to flag it up to you, or does it help to have every one tagged?

Sunnywithshowers · 03/03/2013 12:01

Good luck! I don't need responses either, just glad you're deleting them all.

FamiliesShareGerms · 03/03/2013 12:01

Suggest that you post this message (along with whether you want us to report or not - there are some very recent ones still coming in...) at the top of the page, or under "discussions of the day" or somewhere it won't get drowned out in spam itself

TapirBackRider · 03/03/2013 12:03

I've just reported two new ones that were posted in the last 5 mins - can I suggest a temporary shut down of the registration system whilst this is dealt with??

They are bloody everywhere. I might actually have togo and do something constructive for a few hours Sad

ShowOfHands · 03/03/2013 12:05

Agree with Families. Was thinking at about 3am this morning, they need a banner across MN atm explaining that they are aware of the problem and what/if anything we should do. There must have been hundreds of reports and I have no idea if they're useful.

Do you think this would be a good time to start a thread about football ?

Report
ShowOfHands · 03/03/2013 12:13

At one point at 3am, my active convos was 50 threads long. 40 were spam as a minimum.

It's such a spectacular waste of time. And completely illegal.

Report
Moominsarehippos · 03/03/2013 12:15

Can't you list the originating mailboxes and we can spam them back with recipes for hummous or something?

Report
Sparklingbrook · 03/03/2013 12:16

A trawl of 'unanswered messages' will get a lot of them.

Report
MmeLindor · 03/03/2013 12:16

Blimey, just looked at the Bloggers Network. Do you want us to report each threads, or is there no point?

Report
ShowOfHands · 03/03/2013 12:17

Sadly, they'll probably never be able to trace it back anywhere.

Surely is goes back to whoecer is advertising? Whatzit - some football-style doodah?

Report
MmeLindor · 03/03/2013 12:20

Talk about not knowing your market - do they really think that MN is a hotbead of footie fans?

Although, I am presuming it is a bot kind of thing, cause no one could post that fast.

Report
ShowOfHands · 03/03/2013 12:34

I don't think it is advertising though. I think they're doing it because they can. If they wanted to advertise they'd pay more attention to audience. I think they're more likely to be doing it because they can. Disruption of Service attacks seem to be just ridiculous attempts to derail the function of large sites for some perverse pleasure. There are groups out there whose sole function is to choose a site and try and bring it down by doing exactly this sort of thing. There are a few ways of doing it but spambots are very popular. Makes it unusable for the intended audience.
