Script causing things to run slow

Hi

I am a regular mumsnet visitor and usually have no problems. However, the last couple of days whenever I change page there is a delay and I get a message saying

Stop running this script?

A script on this page is causing Internet Explorer to run slowly. If it continues to run, your computer might become unresponsive.

It is whenever I return to the Talk page.

Hi 5Foot5,

Sorry to hear you've been having this problem whilst browsing Talk.

There are a number of factors which could be causing this and a number of different fixes posted around the web which all vary in success. [bconfused]

Can you send a Diagnostics Page through to us so we can try and reproduce your problem here? Just click 'Send Report' on the computer you're having problems with.

Just for interest, here's what microsoft have to say about the error: support.microsoft.com/kb/175500

Do you use any other web browsers? It would be worth trying another one if you can, others (like Google Chrome/Firefox) don't suffer in the same way as IE with this error (I'll probably be corrected by other techs on this!).

I've just seen this thread. I've been getting this message too for the last few days. But my computer is old so my browser is too. Will upgrade eventually. But it's been fine until about the end of last week.

I have sent the Diagnostics Report now.

Viviennemary - yes I only started getting this in the last few days

I got this a lot when attempting to run MN on very slow bedside internet browser screens in hospital. I think it's related to ads - if you use the mobile version, it doesn't happen.

The other solution would be to run something like adblock and block the specific scripts which are causing a problem although do bear in mind that ads provide a large amount of revenue for MNHQ and blocking them affects this! I don't block any here on principle but if one was causing a particular problem I might do.

Also I really recommend using firefox or chrome on older computers as internet explorer is really geared up for new flashy computers and doesn't run well on slower machines.

I keep getting this. Particulary on the search and topic pages. MN is so sloooow at the moment. Driving me mad!
