What the hell does parp mean then?

Why does it keep coming up?

It's a cliquey, "we've hear this all before" type comment that some people like to post.

Blandmum · 10/11/2005 20:30

Not always. Sometimes people parp themselves when there is a thread which they know might make them go into 'rant mode'

Report
Caligula · 10/11/2005 20:31

No it's not.

It's a "OMG I'm going to end up ranting within the next five posts"

Report
Caligula · 10/11/2005 20:31

Exactly. (Sorry, cross posts)

hunkermunker · 10/11/2005 20:32

No, no, no - it's not we've heard this all before at all!

It's "OMG, this thread topic riles me beyond belief, I really need to leave now before I humiliate myself by posting emoticons all over the place and making myself look like a frothing-mouthed nutter when I want everyone to think I'm as sane as the rest of you mwahahahahaha!"

Isn't it?

You can be in my exclusive parp clique if you like

Report
hunkermunker · 10/11/2005 20:32

Caligula, if I'd kept it short and sweet, that's what I'd have said

But am frothing-mouthed nutter, so can't

so you can say "parp" when you mean the discussion is driving you mad?

No, you tend to say 'parp' when you realise that you feel very strongly about an issue and you are about to start ranting on like a mad woman

Its a sort of self deprecating way of saying, 'I'm going to go off on one about this topic'

Well, in some situations that might be considered as rude. We decided that parps should be used carefully as some people (children!) were using them to parp on New Mothers threads that they thought were boring, which confused and irritated a lot of people.

Use a parp if you don't want to be drawn into a discussion you feel strongly about, to remind yourself not to post anything else. Or in a light-hearted way in Chat if everyone there knows you are joking. Don't parp if you just think it is boring and don't parp and then post anyway cause that's just silly.

Welcome to the Wonderful World of Mumsnet btw!

I read an email at work today & thought 'parp'

I spend too much time on here !

Twiglett · 10/11/2005 21:14

if that's why you're all parping then I think its a f'ing shame

mumsnet is at its best when there's heated barneys ... mmm sudden mental images of purple dinosaurs being tied to stakes and set alight .. but I digress ... at its best when there's loads of argy-bargys

its really dull when there's none

I like to get my blood racing sometimes .. in fact loathe though I am to admit it I quite enjoyed my disgust at dabhip (or whatever) the other day

so stop being killjoys and get with the programme

twig raises fisticuffs .. c'mon .. lets get ready to rumble

I usually miss the barneys so end up just adding a "parp" at the end

Twiglett, I know what parping is...but I don't do it. I am Hunker, hear me rant

Report
Serah · 10/11/2005 22:48

Actually Hunker, instead of parping yourself, could you not just change your name to WHOnkermunker to post on your parp threads????

Report
hunkermunker · 10/11/2005 22:49

God, I could!
