blimey. I was just about to post "well it's ok for me" but i have just had an alert which said "a script in this movie is causing Flash media player 7 to run slowly. do you want to abort the script?"

so yes, i think there is a problem with the santa ad too.

I don't see any santa ad thanks to ad blocking (from, I think, Norton internet security but I can't be sure!)

Did this just happen in the past couple of days? Is it worse when you do a search?

i think its been the last few weeks, am a bit slow at noticing real problems cos i create so many myself! search for what? do you mean the archives? its just everything on my computer is going slow, it interferes with other windows i have going at the same time. is definately mn doing it cos its fine if i shut it down

soupy & lilac - im not talking about a popup ad, its one of the ones at the top of the page you can click on with the red background and falling snow. i have no reason to suspect this other than i cant think of anything else it can be.

It was a pop-up on here that caused my virus. Everytime I put mn on this thing popped up saying security warning...set up macromedia flash blah blah. Got so fed up with it (popped up every time I switched pages) so in the end stupidly I pressed yes instead of no. BIG MISTAKE.
Dh has spent hours sorting it out and now the virus has gone (having got into my mn, email account), the bloomin thing keeps popping up again, but only when I'm on here. No idea how on earth to get rid of it. And its making things here very slow too.

posey - you're talking about 2 unrelated problems, I think. one is that you had a virus and the other is the fact that you don't have flash but that the mn ad is set to check if you have it on every page.

quick fix would be to install flash (search for macromedia flash and get it direct from the site).

but mumsnet people - there definately is a problem with that ad - it has been badly coded. I will buy something from the site if you remove it, promise.

I'll only be able to tell you tomorrow, jj (as I'm on a different computer now), but will check.

SenoraP - I'm computer illiterate, forgive me so why did the whole system crash when I pressed yes to install the flash thing?

The pages on mn seem to be loading quicker for me now (or am i just imagineing it)

posey - probably your computer was already infected with a virus and installing flash sent it over the edge or something.

there's no telling really - flash is notoriously flakey, but doesn't usually do that.

is going much better now, thank you

I've been having lots of problems with Internet Explorer crashing recently too. No idea if this is relevant but have disabled all internet add-ons not from a verified source, one of which was something to do with Flash, and the problem seems to have gone away (in Internet Explorer, go to Tools, Manage Add-ons and disable all dodgy programs). Probably completely irrelevant, but it worked for me!

the ad blocking i was talking about is not just pop-ups. it's every ad on pages too.
