is it considered rude to jump into a thread and start talking?
i thought that coz its a public forum, anyone can post anything. so whydo some people apologise for butting in? justs coz it appears as if two people are having a conversation, surely it doesnt mean that a third isnt welcome?

I haven't come across that stitch. Do you have a thread in mind?

You're not talking about hijacking though are you?

Sometimes I do feel that people are having almost private conversations or perhaps they know each other better than they know me so I feel out of my depth and don't join.

I think because if two people "meet" on a thread and one asks the other a question unrelated to the OP (if they know each other in RL, for instance), it can look rude - hence the apology.

But chatty threads, no prob, IMO.

no, thread hijack is a bit different.
and if someone wants to talk privatley, then thats what msn is for?
i was talking to cod about being a mag, and someone else posted, but apologised for posting. which i thought wsas strange. i am always butting in on threads giving my opinion, {as you well know } so, i was wondering if i am being rude.

I usually apologise if I 'hijack' a thread cos I see someone there I want to talk to but it's not at all related to the OP.

Otherwise I don't but I have been ignored when I've butted in! Fair dos!

I think it's a bit silly to have a conversation with just one other person and expect others not to join in. That's definitely what msn and email are for

I often feel that if I join in early on in the thread it's fine but sometimes when its a lengthy one I feel that I'm intrudding into a private conversation, especially if your posting is totally ignored.

but i love butting in. and giving my opinions about anything and everything. regardless of whether i know anything about thetopic. and if i have to keep apologising, it will take forever.
unless tech can think up a quicky apology/rude mnetter emoticon.
