Any ideas where I can go before she puts herself up for adoption? She says I am the only mum who won't let her wear a £5 mini with a split up the side but the "proper" shops skirts seem to swamp her.

Buy the proper one and slightly adjust it to fit in a more acceptable way. If no sewing skills, have it altered.

My eldest now in 6th form always wore trousers as I refused to have her going to school as a tart!!

My youngest is just in secondary education. I bought the skirt that fitted her around the waist comfotably, took it up to just above the knee...it was rather long... and then sewed a little off the sides...by hand...don't own a sewing machine but it wasn't too tricky.

They must be allowed to feel that they fit in and are part of their group but at the same time, have to understand that we have standards and principals. It is a good lesson for them in compromise...and for us!!

My DDs school skirts are from John Lewis and they come in different length and waist sizes for a better fit.

Luckily her school has a policy that school skirts have to be below the knee and the girls seem to like it. Although they tend to go for a larger waist size so they can wear them on their hips.
