My yr9 son just opted to do btec Pe. All his other choices are academic strong ones, so no worries there. Just that its a new choice this year. Different from GCSE PE. Apparently worth 4 GCSEs. Just wondered if it was a respected` course or considered soft! Any views appreciated.

I don't know anything about the BTEC PE only that at my DD's school they do it as part of their compulsary PE lessons. Most only do the BTEC First cert but there is the opportunity to progress onto the BTEC's that are "worth" 2 GCSES and 4 GCSE's. Personally if hes got a good range of academic subjects having what might be seen as a "soft" option isn't going to do him any harm I'd have thought. Plus if he enjoys PE then I'd have thought it was a better option then doing something he felt he had to do as it would look better on an UCAS form IYSWIM.
