DS1 plays for the School A team for his year at rugby, last week he captained it (according to him because a couple of the boys were unavailable), yesterday his master asked him to captain it again this week, but DS1 said no. When he was telling me last night he said it was because he didn't want to upset X, the usual captain. Should I have a quiet word with the master on Sat, and explain the DS was not being ungracious, just didn't want to put X's nose out of joint, or should i keep my trap shut?

I think it might be worth a quiet word.

My DS plays rugby for his school and they take the commitment quite seriously. I would hate for the generous nature of your DS to be taken for lack of commitment. Well done to him that the master wanted him to captain it again. It is my son's dream to captain the A's. He's working towards it.
