Dangerous dark evenings.

The clocks change this weekend. How many kids will be killed or injured on the roads coming home from school this year? School uniforms are usually black,grey or navy. It's not cool to wear a reflective armband at secondary school. I wrote to my sons' head teacher asking if the uniform code could be changed to an outdoor coat design incorporating a white or light coloured single stripe or patch or design - anything that would show up in the headlights on a dark, rainy evening. No - coats/jackets must be plain black/grey/navy. What do others think?

i think that's awful! we used to be handed out little orange arm bands. when driving it is really hard to see people in dark clothes.

We knock off at 3, so it tends not to be so much of a problem for us. Can see that in sotland/rural areas it would be more of an issue

Teenagers won't wear armbands. If a white stripe incorporated in the manufacturing/design process was actually part of the school uniform rules and everyone had to wear that make/design, they might conform. I dread driving home from work these evenings - half the kids have got their earphones jammed in their ears - at least when it is light you can see them when they walk in front of you!

Mine finish at 3.45, but have to walk to station, then walk home at other end - it can be quite dark by 4.30 by the end of this term - even in London.

i know my son is 13 so i worry about it too, i'm going to sew something reflective onto his bag

I've been wondering about this myself. We live in a village with no street lights and very narrow pavements. I've been trying to get hold of a reflective tabbard/jacket thing to go over ds' coat (and mine!)for us to walk home with. (I used to have one 30 years ago, so why can't you get one now?) I have searched quite a few places and most seem to think I'm barmey. Ds has a reflective triangle about 2 cm's wide on the back of his coat. - what's the point in that?

Agree it's very dangerous and can't believe in todays world nobody is bothered.

the sunday market has them here starting in small child size..like the ones road engineers wear

you can also get ones for cyclists and horseriders

They sell reflective things aimed at runners too that look like strips of reflective material.

Nothing trendy there for your older ones though
