Compulsory Sujects for Year 10

Can anybody help with exactly what subjects are compulsory for a year 10 student & does this apply for academies?

It will vary depending on the school - some will require students to take 1 language or 1 humanity for example. But typically it is science, maths, english, pe - possibly ict and rs too.
And there shouldn't be any difference with academies as far as I know.

I think for most it is English, maths and science (double or triple). I think all do some form of RS, which is not necessarily an examined subject. Some require a language (DD's school did), a humanity and/or a practical subject but it does depend on the individual school.

PE is compulsory up to leaving school, but not as an examined subject.

DD's compulsory subjects were: maths, 2 x English, double or triple science and RE/citizenship. She could then choose three or four subjects depending in what sciences she chose.

I think wrt the National Curriculum:
English, Maths, Science
PE (unexamined)
RE (unexamined, unless you withdraw on religious grounds)

But different schools will add their own 'compulsory' which you can't get out of. e.g. DD1s school has compulsory ICT, and RE is examined and way harder to get out of then the other local secondary.

Then by option blocking they can ensure everyone does an MFL, or a Tech or whatever.

Quite a lot of academic schools will expect the subjects listed in the English Bacc. Religiously affiliated schools might expect RE. Specialist schools will expect students to take subjects in the specialism.

Academies do not have to follow the National Curriculum.
More than 2/3 of secondary schools are academies.

Schools will do what is needed to hold their place in the league tables

Each school does its own thing.

THe letterhead might still say it but the curriculum wont

That's interesting about the specialist status. Quite a few schools still quote it around here!

as talkin said about specialism; we no longer get the extra funding, but as schools have in palce the expertise/curriculum/staff in that area, they will still advertise it. For example, my school has Arts specialism and to be honest, there are far more art staff (particularly performing arts) than is really needed (timetable/student number wise) than is needed, but they use their expertise to network with other schools, especially in primary schools to ensure our profile is positive think the money could be better spent, but that's the cynic in me
