My daughter just got her results and she got c in biology,c in classics, a E in maths and a U in chemistry. She really wants to do biochemistry and her sixth form advised her to retake somewhere else as they do not allow it. Could ypu reccomend some schools in londoo she could talk to?

London's a big place! Can you look on the websites of schools near you - they will give information about year 12 and 13 entry requirements. It seems to be quite common to not allow students to continue to A2 with an E at AS.

At my sons' school you have to have a minimum of 3 Ds to go onto year 13, but they are quite open to students repeating year 12.

Is biochem the right choice for her do you think? Is the school not giving her any advice at all?

Where in London are you?
As an aside, you DD got her results early! I thought they were not out until Thursday

Last Thursday for AS/A2 results.

College might be a better bet, or she could drop chemistry and retake maths.

Perhaps this is a good time to look at options for after yr 13. Is biochemistry really her best option? What is it that attracts her? What careers is she interested in?

Oh right. Sorry, I thought it was a question about GCSE retakes and starting 6th form

Is that degree her best option? Is there extenuating circumstances for her results?

She will have to declare these marks on her UCAS, I think. Probably best to focus on her stronger subjects?

Not in London, so can't advise about that, but where we live almost every 6th form insists on a C if you want to continue to A2.

My ds did badly in Yr12, felt he'd chosen the wrong subjects, and got poor results at AS. The school was very supportive, and he redid Yr 12 with different subjects. He did well this summer, so it definitely worked for him.

However, my understanding is that the funding has changed and schools now get much less funding for a student who is in 6th form for 3 years. They used to get full funding for up to 3 years of sixth form/ FE college, but now get only partial funding for the third year. I might be wrong, so check it out, but if it is the case then schools might be reluctant to let students redo year 12.

FWIW, my ds did stick with one subject although changed the others. He got a D in it last year, but an A this year, so it can be done. However, he really did no work whatsoever in Yr12 first time round ( missed loads of lessons, didn't do homework, didn't revise) so the D was what he deserved, and everyone knew he could do much better. Is this the case for your dd or did she work really hard? if it's the latter, would redoing the year help at all? It may be that she's not really cut out for that subject..
