Just got the bill for ds' GCSE entries (not entirely unexpected as it is independent school). Just curious if same applies to state and other independents.

It does not apply to ordinary entries in state schools, and in independents practice varies but should be clearly stated.

We paid £30 per IGCSE subject 5 years ago, but that was because DS was an independent candidate.

In state schools, there is normally no cost to the student/family, though I guess there may be rare exceptions if someone is doing a subject that isn't normally available.

I suppose independent schools might choose to either charge you directly, or indirectly in the fees for those year groups.

Generally free in state schools. Imagine there is a charge for any no shows

Yes free in state schools, but the school themselves are billed, so can be a factor influencing how many they do.
State schools are likely to charge for remarks and possibly resits. Independent schools will charge for everything.

If there is a remark and the exam board made a mistake, the fee is refunded.

Only pay in state schools if a resit, I think, or to get it remarked. Normal to at least charge the cost to parents in indies.
