Controlled Assessments Grades Y10 - Have your kids had any marks back

I asked this question early in the school year but am curious to know what has happened between then and now.

Has anyone had any feedback on their controlled assessments? Not final grades but an indication about how well (or not) they may have done?

Yes, both daughters who have gone through GCSEs (at different schools) had marks given for all their controlled assessments (MFLs, sciences, history), usually fairly shortly after the CA.

Yup, DD1 has received marks and grade approximation (with lots of covering words such as this is what it would have been last year but boundaries change, and marks may change following moderation) for all her CAs so far. That's a number for English, and a science experiment. Waiting feedback on a recent MFL.

(By my reckoning she has 9! more to go, plus stuff for Drama)

Anyone not received any feedback? My kids have done 5 English controlled assessments this year and have had no feedback at all. The school keeps telling us that they are not allowed to give the kids any idea about how they've done or what their marks are. I'm not asking for a Grade but a number out of 100% or 40 (whichever way they are marked) would be nice so the kids have an idea how they are doing. The kids feel as though they are floundering in the dark as they don't know whether they have written good or bad essays and are not sure which one they should re-write next year. It's awfully frustrating that different schools seem to be different things. The playing field is far from level.

Yes all of them so far, pretty soon after they'd done them, including English.

That's really poor. Dd has had a couple of poor CAs and has been able to re-do them. The teachers must be able to tell you if they think they were ok or not at least.

DD has had hers back for German and English, waiting on her business one. Will be here by Wednesday Hmm

They aren't supposed to tell them. But some schools do.

Yes, DD finds out pretty soon after the CA's what she got.

I agree, they need to tell them so they can learn from any mistakes and hopefully do better on the next.

Redoing CAs??! Er... That's cheating. This is why I HATE CAs. You shouldn't get the grade until exam day in August... They are an EXAM. Roll on no more controlled assessments - honestly, and my students ask me why the grade boundaries are so much higher than the exams. CHEATING is why!!! Sheesh.

Really? We were told (MFL) they do three and the best two get submitted. Dd's second one was crap grrrrr so she's just done another.

The kids have been told that they can re-write one essay. They choose the one they think they need to eoneven though they have jo idea how they've done. I agree with getting rid of them, though who knows if what is coming next will be any better. They have caused stress beyond belief in our house due to lack ofmfeedback both pre and post assessment.

You can't re do them, surely. In Science, you can attempt 3 CAs, and submit the best mark.

I would like to ditch them personally. Too much variation in administration.

For MFL dd2 did 4 of each and they sent in the best two. You can't redo a CA with the same stimulus/experiment.

My dd's didn't get a grade, just a "this is probably this mark".

For English you can re-do as many as you like as long as you do a different question. And there is nothing that says you can't have marks back or some general feedback. I don't let the students see the cas again though.

I'll have to check again with the kids. As far as I understood, in English they do 5 this year and some more next year. Not certain how many next year. For one of the one's that they do next year they are allowed to choose one of the 5 topics that they wrote about this year and the better one is submitted. I know it sounds odd. I'll need to check with the school.
