... where each teacher had to individually give account for any student who failed to get an A at GCSE!

Apparently at departmental level all non-A-stars were discussed as well

Good God!

So it is the teachers that get held to account then!?

40 odd% of my 72 kids got A or A* grades and I thought that was bloody good!

Oh part of my title has gone missing. It said:

A friend of mine teaches Maths at one of 'those schools' and they had a whole staff meeting ...

(PS It's a highly selective school in case you hadn't guessed; very competitive/academic/pressurised interviews and tests ... for three yr-olds! And they hoik them out pretty sharpish too if they fail to meet the standards.)

The teachers had to account to the Head.
All the students are expected to get all As! And almost all of them do. It's a fairly short meeting
