Does anyone know anything about the 11+ practice day for Guildford schools. My son is sitting the RGS 11+ in January and his friend told him about an 11+ practice exam. I can not find the details on line. Can anyone help as it sounds perfect?

Try putting "Guildford Schools" in the title of your thread, you may receive a better response.

got a letter my DD passed QE boys exam. We can put the school on our local authority form. Does this mean anything.
The school will only take 180 boys but a lot more passed the exam and they will not say where DD is ranked.
Anyone in the same boat!

But you do get a score don't you? Usually a score of 235+ gets you a place in the first round. Even if you knew the exact ranking you wouldn't know who had put a preference for another school above that one.

How can a DD get into QE Boys?

It would help if we at least know where DD is ranked believe it or not. If he is ranked withing the 180 then it won't matter if other people within the 180 put QE boys as their preference or not.

About 500 boys have passed and we have all been asked to put the school on our local authority form! How do you explain that,

Does anyone really understand the process. What do you mean by first round?

Presumably some may well have qualified for other schools too so it would be down to preference and how spaces are allocated (some near us have so many places based on performance alone, others ranked by catchment/score). if you don't put it down you may not have any chance. When is your deadline for the CAF? If you have his score can you look at past year allocations as to the likelihood of him getting in .

What score did he get? They are standardised score so that will give you a rough idea (max mark will be 280). 245+ will be in the top 180.

Offers come out in March (this is the first round) and parents have 2 or 3 weeks in which to respond. Lots of boys will sit QE and Habs and a few others, there will be a second round of offers once people reject QE.

I know people who live in SE London and Kent who have passed QE. They will put it on their form but in 5th or 6th place behind St Olaves, Wilsons Wallington, Sutton, Judd and Skinners
So long as you have put the schools in the order of your true preferences, you will get the highest preference for which you are eligible.

Thanks so much for the explanations. I understand a lot better now.
By the way he scored 235, so we will probably not be in the first round.
