My DD is going to year5 soon and in due course she would like to sit the entrance test for Newstead Woods.

She is in the top group for all her subject altough I am realistic that so many other girls are this also & better. I have looked into tutoring (which so many mums tell me without i shouldn`t bother) but I simply cannot afford this.

My daughter is hard working and asked me to coach her, however i have no idea where to begin for this test. I know it's verbal and nonverbal and that is pretty much it.

I realise we are aiming high but than what example would i be setting not wanting to help/support her. I want her to aim high and give everything a go, you never know where it might take you.

So my question what can i do to help her. Any recommendations what she will need to shine in, pay attention at ? All is very welcome as I promised to dedicate some time during the summer to coach her.

Thank you :)

Hi

My DD is starting at Newstead in September. She got in from the waiting list (was third on the list after allocation day). We also did not go down the tutor route.

I'd really recommend the materials in 11plus.co.uk and also the free materials on elevenplusexams.co.uk (go into the shop). 11plus.co.uk have some fantastic video tutorials which you can look at first and then work through them with your DD.

If you need anything further just PM me :)
