St. Olaves School and Christ Hospital

we're planning to enter yr 7 for my son who likes sports and also music, any comments on above 2 school? Thanks!
St. Olaves in York can direct enter St. Peter at year 9 while CH in West Sussex.

Wow - 2 very very different schools there and miles apart. Can I ask why you are choosing between those 2, and are you looking at boarding at one or at both of them?

Well CH is very good for music (the marching band for one) and they play lots of sport.

My son is just finishing his 2nd year and has settled in and doing very well (although he isn't musical)

Yoni, the fee if St. Olaves is much cheaper than CH, and I found the ranking of St Peter's is much higher than CH. But my friend's son will enter ti yr 9 to CH this year, I think they can help each others. Also as what I said, my son's academic is not so strong, I dont know which school suit for him.

There's a good reason why the boarding fee is lower at Olave's - it's not set up as a boarding school! It's a vastly majority day school and I think they only have 16 proper boarders (they claim something like 29, but it's not as that includes flexi, etc and even at that figure is vastly the tiny minority of the school). Day children also do not really feel as if they are part of a boarding school, which IMO is a huge mistake.

CH is a proper boarding school, with the set up to back it up. Well worth the extra fees for that!

Where is your son right now? Can he stay there until year 9?

he's in overseas now, we will let him study until university

Yes he's a full boarder. All of his friends play a musical instrument but not my son! He played double bass for 3 years at primary school but he really didn't enjoy it so stopped after a term at CH. I wish he'd carried it on but never mind.

Most days are lessons in the morning with sport in the afternoons. When they get to seniors (yr 10 I think) they can do different activities to sport if they want in the afternoon.

The majority of children are full boarders so there is Saturday morning school with matches in the afternoons.
