Ds just pooped in under a black cloud of injustice(he still does the"snot fair"so well! )

Apparently the January modules he was working towards are canceled as of today in freebie if a terminal exam-even though they are over half screen (so getting on for 1/3 of the way through the course).

Is this correct of has he been misdirected by Facebook mates?

He's wrong even this government don't do things that fast. I heard 2014 as when the changes will happen, I'm not sure if it will be courses starting or ending then, but it certainly won't be this January.

It affects the current year 11s. ie: those starting A levels in Sept 13. If he's already in sixth form it's business as usual this year, but next January there won't be Jan modules, so current year 12s get exams this January but not next.

"The scrapping of January exams and the limit on resits come in from September 2013, but they will affect students who began their A-level studies this September. They will not have January exams in their second year as expected."

Phew thanks! So ok this year with modules as expected but the biggie at A2. That'll be really tough but he's got time to adapt.

He's not wrong I'm afraid. A report came out yesterday that January modules are being scrapped from Sept 2013 for AS and A2. He'll be able to sit exams this Jan but not next year. GCSE Jan modules have already been scrapped officially and this is their last year.

These kids have been hammered with tougher exam conditions and not enough time to save for uni.

Can't think that dc will be able to save significant amounts for university however much time they have known about it to be honest. This years year 12s have escaped all the other exam toughening measures too. As my dd said - I thought we'd got away with it, but at least we won't have exams to worry about next christmas.

DS2 (Y12) shot out of bed down the computer to check out what I'd said - he was gutted to have it confirmed that his Jan modules haven't been cancelled, says he much prefers exams all in one go (and he clearly wanted to have the spectre of Christmas revision removed).
