School dinners question...(Cox Green School, Maidenhead)

Hello!

Just had my sister texting me saying that my nephew doesn't seem to be getting much value for money with school dinners at his school (Cox Green School, Maidenhead...it's an Academy).

He's on free school meals, so is given an allocation of £2.20 to spend per day (one of these cashless, cafeteria style places).

According to him, the cheapest hot meal is a wrap which costs £1.85. Drinks start at 85p, so apparently he goes without a drink!

Both me and sis do not think this sounds right.

Could anyone shed any light?

(Btw, I have asked my sister to contact the school about this and to send him with a water bottle! He lives with his Dad most of the time...parents have separated)

Thank you! Smile

I wouldn't expect drinks to be included, but I would expect there to be water available.

Our school main meal is free on school dinners, or they can pick from the other selections up to the FSM price. Water is free (for all). Other drinks chargeable.

Ditto Kez, i do think there will be free water available. Our FSMers can choose what they wish up to the value of their FSM "allowance". There is always a choice of hot mains, and sandwiches for that price, or less.
You can buy drinks, but they bump the price up, i don't give my own dc enough money for lunch and a drink - nowt wrong with water Grin
But yes, he should have a water bottle with him anyway for the rest of the day if nothing else.

School meals are that sum for two courses, served at second break - a hot meal like a roast or spag bol and then a hot pud like sponge and custard. Canteen style food served at first break. There's also a chilled water fountain with cups in the canteen so dunno how he's going without a drink.
