Any recommendations for good secondary state schools in Virginia Water, Surrey area? Friend is moving there from abroad July 2012 and needs to find good school for her boys (11 and 13).
Any advice at all welcome!

Charters is nearby and I know quite a few families who have moved to be in the catchment area.
There are many American families in the area who send there children to the International American school which is on the A30. It uses the American curriculum.
Lovely schools,lovely area!

Oh, and a bit further away near Staines is the Magna Carta Secondary school, don 't have any feedback on this school though.

The catchment school for Virginia Water is Magna Carta in Egham.

It's not a particularly good school. It's my catchment school and we scrimp and save for independent.

Charters is oversubscribed, overcrowded and out of county for VW. If they lived in Sunningdale (next to VW), they'd have a chance there.

It will be hard to find a place anywhere for the 11yo as places are applied for now, and you need a local address.

BTW, ACS does not follow an American curriculum - it's IB all the way through.

No, VW is in Surrey whereas Charters is in Berkshire.

The catchment school for VW is Magna Carta, a similar distance away as Charters.

Move to Sunningdale (but make sure on the Berks side of the A30) and then will be almost certain to get into Charters for Year 7. Great school and lovely area to live too. Not the fastest train line into London though.

Oh sorry, just noticed the ages of the boys. All years at Charters are full but I'm sure a call to the school could let you know what the chances of in year entry will be.

Charters? Few places come up every year as parents move out of the area to better schools after having moved in to get to Charters :(
