Does anyone else find the BBC bitesize for Romeo and Juliet slightly offensive? I know there's a technique to grabbing teenagers attention , but is this really it?

I agree. I cannot think why this is offensive.

I have looked and I would have loved something like that when I was at school. Despite getting an 'A' grade at O level English Language I never 'got' Shakespeare or literature in general (I got a U in English Literature. Yes, I did turn up and I did read the books).

If youngsters who have trouble with English Literature are ever to engage with it, then such explanations and hand holding is necessary.

I looked through those too. Maybe it is a particular page we have missed.

Doesn't offend me. It is just one "take" on it. The teacher will approach it from other angles as well. This is designed for students to look at on their own in addition to what will happen in the classroom. If it gets their attention and is memorable then it is going to help.

Which particular section is offending you?
Please be more specific in your question.

There are many options, OP come back and communicate. It's an important GCSE skill, to be able to explain your meaning to others.

It does have teen sex in it, and a couple of murders, and dysfunctional families.
And a lying priest!

You mean my children?
Because how my class are spending their holiday is a matter of indifference to me.

I went on strike in the 80s to ensure teachers got lunch breaks. I'm not about to support a backwards lurch because of the bosom-hoikers.
Still wondering which particular bit the OP is upset about, it does't pay to guess on MN.

Have you watched the videos? They are massively offensive. There are people in dodgy Shakespearean get-up fighting with swords in the street and truly terrible disco lights in the party scene.

I can't think what else the OP could possibly object to.

OP - come back and explain your offense!
