Secondary Schools In Lichfield 2011

I am hoping to move to Lichfield. The problem is that the house I'd most love to buy is in the Nether Stowe school catchment and when you look at their A*-C its only 40% whereas, King Eds is 68% and The Friary is 58%. My daughter is only 5 at the moment and I know school's can change in 5 years. Should I gamble on Nether Stowe for my gr8 would be house or get me and my family into a King Ed safe zone catchment (I'd been told you need to be a 10minute walk away to guarantee to get in?). All advice gratefully received.

thanks for that very good points - more to think about - I saw another two really good potentials today in the catchment at the moment

decisions, decisions

thanks again

My son goes to Nether Stowe and is doing really well, My niece goes to King Edwards and is struggling. It is often the child's ability that counts for a lot. You could send a child to the best school in the country but if the ability is not there they will still struggle.

In my experience Nether Stowe is a good, supportive school with brilliant, engaging teachers who do their best for the children.

The 10 minute walk away myth is rubbish. I have a cousin who lives near me in Four Oaks (Sutton Coldfield) and attends KE Lichfield.

Have you looked at moving more into the Sutton/Shenstone border? You would be in catchment for Arthur Terry school which has amazing GCSE results and 'outstanding' Ofsted. Very close to Lichfield still.

No direct personal experience but I grew up in Lichfield and have lots of contacts there. The local opinion seems to be that KE has been coasting for years whereas Netherstowe is on the up.

Many of my friends are trying to move to Barton under Needwood to get their children into John Taylor School which seems to have a fantastic reputation locally. I think the school also serves many of the villages and the fringes of Burton.

My colleagues dd goes to Netherstowe and likes it, but she is very sporty. He believes the reason KEs is so good is that many of the children there are privately tutored. His wife is a teacher so I would suggest that they have looked into this.

Ohh great thread. I am still trying to do a houseswap to Lichfield and had previously discounted houses because Nether stowe was the nearest school. Might be able to rethink that now.

Found a lovely house - but was too unsure today to put an offer in - its not my dream house (do they exist ?) and was scared about committing myself to this house at the top end of my possible budget.

Do you always know when you find "the one" - should you keep searching to find the one that ticks all your boxes or should you stop at some point and go this will do nicely.

Feel very confused and keep changing my mind about it every few minutes. As I said to the bloke in the estate agents you should be skipping into the estate agents if you feel that sure and today I was almost thinking about flipping a coin to help me make my mind up.

Sorry in answer to tiredemma - yes the house is in lichfield.
I did look at houses near Arthur Terry and have rightmoved others near John Taylor but because I don't drive (big scaredy cat) I wanted something near the bus and train station and shops.
