DS is at a good local prep but we will soon need to decide where he goes at 13+.

The local state upper schools are good (my catchment school would not be a bad option), but my first choice would be Ipswich School.

Does anyone have experience or comments?

What about RHS Holbrook?

A friend has two at Ipswich - thinks it is brilliant.

I've heard great things about it from friends but was hoping for more unbiased opinions from you MNers.

scaryteacher - I love the look of RHS, but some of DS's friends will be going to Ipswich School, it gets great results at GCSE and A Level and there is a bus there from where I live (BSE). He's also been to several hockey events there, so that's why I'd prefer it.

Ds nearly went there. We really liked the old Head, not sure what the new one is like, but he's quite new & will probably change things a bit. I've known a few children that have been and they mostly seem happy with it, but I think quite a few of last year's (2009) leavers didn't get offers where they wanted them/at all This could just be competition for popular courses increasing, or maybe poor advice in not choosing safe enough backups or just an unlucky year.
