Does anybody have any experiences of these schools? I am looking at secondary schools in the area.

They are both good schools - I have known teachers at both of them and also I have known girls who attended both. Exeter school is also good and has the best facilities out of the 'big three'. None of the private schools are as good as Colyton Grammar, though, which is of course free (well, apart from the cost of the bus!).

Thanks. Do you know if they are hard to get into ?

Maynard is harder than St Margarets or Exeter School, but (anecdotally) easier than Colyton. St Margarets is the 'least' academic of the three but honestly, it gets great results too, not surprisingly really when you consider the resources available.

Any idea which school the children entering the one's described above go to beforehand? Ie nursery/ preschool & does it matter or can you recommend good preschool/ nurseries ?

Aiming for Maynard at age 7 , but need a nursery/ school for now. Been advised Montessori, Bramdean, St Margerets so far.

Why are you so set on the Maynard at age 7?

I don't know anyone who has sent their DDs to the junior department there, I do know a family with DDs in the junior department at Exeter school, they started off at 4 at the Cathedral school.

Actually it just occured to me I do know a family with a DD in the Maynard junior department Blush but they are hoping she will have got into Colyton when the results come out on 1 March, this is purely financial and organisation as they are happy with the Maynard but her older siblings go to Colyton already. This girl went to her local primary school outside Exeter before she joined the Maynard at 7.
