Hello, I'm new to the site.

DS will go into Yr 7 in Sept 2012.

We live in NW10 far from the 'better' schools within Brent ie. Preston Manor, Claremont and Kingsbury.
Our nearest schools are Capital City Academy NW10 and Crest Boys NW2, we do not particulary want to make either of these a preference.

We plan to look at QE Boys, Merchant Taylor and John Lyon School (private) Harrow.

Would appreciate thoughts/feedback. Thanks.

QE Boys selective so if you want to get in, start extra tuition now. Believe me, you won't get in without it, no matter how bright your kid is. And there are about 10 kids going for every available place.

Undersatand your concerns about Crest Boys - recently converted from John Kelly Boys which had a bad rep, but changing area and all that.

Would go along to City Academy open day in September though and have a look - know a lot of people in your year galvanising troops to send their kids there and word has it they are funded to the eyeballs.

If you are considering private then highly recommend also looking at Habs, there are coaches from your area, UCS on Finchley Rd and City of London Boys too.
