DS has been learming French so far & has just found out he will be learning German & Japanese in Y8. He has said he would like a couple of books to look at before he starts. He doesn't have anything at present but I was thinking something basic/dictionary like for each subject (inc French for ref). Any recommendations? Many thanks.

He could look at this site for basic German:

german.about.com/library/anfang/blanfang_inhalt.htm

'my japanese coach' for ds (if he has one) is good. Dd learned japanese, starting a term later than the rest in the group and found it useful to catch up. As I recall it was very inexpensive as ds games go (circa £10).

I have ordered some French books & a Japanese book & 6 CD set which will be way too much info at the moment but hopefully he will use later on. Those websites look really good for German & I was looking to get that DS game but it seems to be out of stock everywhere but it did set me on to thinking that he might like the French version of the same game so thanks for the suggestion.
