Anyone with experience of mediation?

We have our first appointment tomorrow and I'm not sure what to expect. I have arranged it and I have asked the mediator to ask him first what he will offer in terms of a financial settlement, rather than me stating something for him to argue with. You never know, he may have had a u-turn on his decision to keep 'his' 750k house and show me the door!

Can anyone tell me what happened to them? How many appointments did it take to reach agreement on money and children? The girls are almost 10 and 12, can we ask them what they want to happen re contact and residence?
