Huge Falling out with Best Friend

ok....where to begin...

Last week, my bestfriend (F) and I went on a work team awayday and spent a night away from home.

In the evening, we all (about 20 of us)went out for a meal and drinkies.

Everything was ace and we were all having a good time until he(for he is a bloke) slapped me hard across the face. For no reason.

When it came to move onto the next pub...I decided to go home. We had a few words and I left in a taxi. I didn't make a scene, lots of work colleagues were there.

The following morning, he texted me to see if I was ok. I ignored him.

This morning we exchanged texts and he wants to talk to me about what happened. I told him that I didn't want to talk to him and that I would be away until thursday (which is a lie) and would call him then.

I have no idea what to do.

I love him, he was my bridesmaid and he is godfather to DS1.

This is the biggest betrayal ever.

Any ideas?

i dont understand - everything was ok then he suddenly just slapped you ?

Report
ilove · 10/05/2009 20:11

Huh?

He was your bridesmaid?

Is he gay? What did you say when he slapped you?

Report
traceybath · 10/05/2009 20:11

Did anyone else see it or say anything?

Just all sounds very odd - has he been violent before - was he on something?

I would perhaps speak to him on the phone and ask what happened but to be honest if someone slapped me - the friendship would be over.

Confused

rubyslippers · 10/05/2009 20:12

he slapped you out of the blue?

but surely people saw if there were 20 of you in the pub?

what did they say?

if he hit you then, friendship over BTW

What were you doing when he slapped you?

Was it a 'slap' slap, or a nudge... That doesn't come out right, but I have a friend who 'slaps' my arm when she is talking...really pisses me off, but she does it to everybody!

I think you need to talk to him though!

Oh, just realised he slapped you on the face!

What the hell? Were you intoxicated?

Report
Lulumama · 10/05/2009 20:14

so he slapped you in the face, totally unprovoked, apropos of nothing.. no argument, jsut a random slap.. not that provocation/arguing etc is any excuse

but that seems so random

was he on medication? unwell?

is this out of character

if a friend slapped me, it would be a total deal breaker

what did other people say/do?

if i saw a friend being slapped, i would not be able to keep my mouth shut ! i can;t beleive no-one commented

it was totally out of the blue - totally out of character.

it was a proper open handed slap, the following morning, i had a slight bruise and a slightly swollen cheek.

so you are physically marked? He must ahve walloped you ...

squeaver · 10/05/2009 20:21

I know you're furious but I think you need to let him speak to you. I'm not defending him in any way, just think you need to have your curiosity sated and let him know it's not on.

And then never speak to him again, if you wish.

Report
noddyholder · 10/05/2009 20:21

Could the person he was talking to have said something about you that caused him to react like this?

Report
pottycock · 10/05/2009 20:22

what a brat. why are you friends with this guy? does he have a crush on you?

Report
mayorofwhoville · 10/05/2009 20:23

We were stood talking about random stuff and I was looking and talking to someone else in the group when he slapped me.

No warning, no argument, no row, no nothing?

Mrsboogie - what else would you like to know?

I think you need to know why, then you can make a decision based on the facts. There MUST be a reason, perhaps he got the wrong end of the stick over something. Perhaps it was a drunken game and he didn't mean to hit you as hard as he did.

No excuse, but even so, I would want to know WHY!

Report
Drusilla · 10/05/2009 20:25

Surely you said something to him after he slapped you? Did he reply?
