Ds hates my bf's ds. What to do?

My lovely friend has a ds same age as ds1. He's a horrible child (6yo) and has been since I've known him - mean, aggressive, competitive. The parents are lovely and hospitable, and take the lo to task for his behaviour (with no effect at all) but I feel we can't see them as a family as I can't inflict it on ds. It's really torture for him. What to do? I can't say the truth - it would be too offensive, but I'm always making excuses and feel horrible.

I would say, try and meet up just you and her for a while. Maybe the boy will become nicer over time and if he doesn't then you are looking after your ds's interests. I feel he needs to know you are looking after his needs.

That's a good idea - I guess when we're together we hang out as adults and let the kids play, and ds just gets tormented. Maybe we need to do something structured. I'll think about that.

I think it's really hard for them, but have not really discussed it of course, as it just sounds like comparing and I would end up looking like smug mum of delightful child.
