Hello,
I've got less than a month to go before I pop, and am at home and umm... the hormones are really raging, so I know that sex should be avoided in the last weeks in case it triggers labour, but do 'self-made' orgasms?? Will I bring on labour, or should i just lie back and enjoy??

Hiya

My understanding is that orgasms will not bring on labour unless you were going to start very soon anyway...i.e it may kick start it by a few hours but not by months. Orgasms in the 3rd trimester may bring on braxton hicks (did with me)

I am not a doc by the way, and I know there are specific high risk pregnancies when you are told to avoid sex, so obviously if you think you fall into that category it is best to avoid....

enjoy it !! sex can help ripen the cervix towards the end of pregnancy, and contractions can be triggered, but it is very unlikely to actually start labour. no-one really knows what actually makes labour start, a complex release of hormones from the baby is one factor, so sex is very unlikely to set you off, unless you were going to anyway !

sex during early labour can help strenghten contractions as long as your waters are intact
