Excellent book - saved our marriage

Top tip for all of you who are experiencing major disruptions to the home dynamic after baby arrives......

Our first arrived in November, and by Xmas I/we were seriously wondering if we were going to make it. The arguments and distaste for each other made for a hellish home environment.

Then I stumbled upon a book "Babyproof Your Marriage" (Cockrell/O'Neill/Stone). After I read it, things were unbelievably better. After husband read half of it, things were back to normal (i.e., brilliant, fantastic, wonderful).

I can't recommend this book highly enough - it really helped us to adjust to parenthood and to understand each other's changed perspectives.

Good luck, and don't give up!

Many thanks

I'm gonna try and get it.

is it just regarding babies?
or older children too?

Report
allgonebellyup · 27/08/2007 12:28

what does it suggest then?

It's great. I agree. We are still struggling but much less than before. My DP wouldn't read it but would listen to little bits being explained. Have yet to put the "go away for the weekend and leave him holding the baby" advice into practice though!

This is a STRANGE first post

Do you have shares in the publishers?

Report
Berowra · 28/08/2007 10:44

Nope, no shares - just trying to help out others. I thought that's what MN is about.

For those of you without suspicious minds....

elasticbandstand - it's not actually about the offspring, but about their effect on the parent's relationship, so in that sense, yes, it might be relevant whatever age your kids are

allgonebellyup - it's big suggestion is to get each half to understand the other's perspective and concerns, and then there are lots of little suggestions of how to do this - too many to go into detail. (Try for it at your library?)

mylittlefreya - I agree - the book really helped but I'm far too nervous to leave my boys to it!

TheArmadillo - I will follow your link to the live chat - hope it's not too bad and a repeat of previous book discussions!! (I didn't follow the GF thing at the time but from what I gather it was all just too much (and for the record, my baby is VERY contented).)

TheArmadillo - thanks for the link.

I have read the first half-dozen posts and scanned throught the rest. Very disappointing. I'll be quite honest - given the immature comments on that thread, combined with MP's response to my original post, and the (admittedly 2nd-hand) reports I have read of the GF debacle, I have been quite put off MN. I won't be logging on again, and I won't be recommending MN to my friends; I'll leave all the angry people to themselves.

Apologies to those of you who are nice people with a positive outlook on life.

G'day.
