It's official - my FIL is an idiot

My FIL has been driving my husband to distraction over the last couple of months as he's SO stubbon and pig-headed.

He hurt himself quite badly at work about two months ago (broken ribs, muscle strain and bad bruising) and ended up in hospital for a few days. He was signed off sick for a month and has he rested like he was advised - my foot! He's done nothing but complain about how unwell he feels but is still going into work because he's ok??!! Yesterday after going for a drink with his mum and dad, DH gets a call to say FIL has collapsed saying he can't breathe. DH hot foots it round to his parents as ambulance arrives - for FIL to insist he's feeling better and he doesn't want to go to hospital even though they offer to take him to get him checked out. DH and his sister and mum have nagged him to death about slowing down, resting when he should but it just seems to fall on deaf ears. He smokes and drinks too much, doesn't need to work as quite well off - threatens to quit once a month and then does bugger all. DH came home in tears yesterday and there's nothing I can do to make him feel ok. I could cheerfully strangle my FIL.

if he is signed off he cannot go to work they are not insured for him to be there.

Typical man of his generation I think.

your FIL is being really foolish and the 999 call has proved he isn't well enough to work
TBH his employers shouldn't let him on the premises
When i was signed off sick for 3 months, i went back to work early but only after i had a note from the doctor to say i was ok to return
My HR dept were concerned if anything happened to me, they would be liable, so it was a bit of arse covering on their part but sensible as well

I guess a leopard won't change his spots. This is the man after all who had what the hospital suspect was a mini-stroke about two years ago and never when back to the doctors for the aftercare. They were talking rubbish aparently...
