I met my husband on POF, both in our mid thirties so not twenty somethings. You do have to filter out weirdos and be quite picky about your 'must haves' but I see no harm in the website itself and it had more people on than match.com and guardian soulmates.

Google best uk dating sites and check out newspaper and magazine reviews - they will tell you a bit about the average age/background of users for different sites - and pick the one that fits you best.

Everyone I know who does (or did) online dating uses Guardian Soulmates. But they are all 30 something, left wing, creative professional types, living in London, as is the average Soulmates user. That might not suit you.

Have fun!

I met my current boyfriend of 9 months on POF so it's worked for us, but with any dating site you need to have your twat radar on. It also depends on what you're after and how you "market" yourself as to how you find it I think.

Have you tried asking on the dating thread as many on there are online dating?

Thankyou :) thats fab news :) I'm 35 soon to be 36. I have set my profile up lets give it a whirl. I'm ok at the dating bit but very anxious about anything more (wobbly bits and stretch marks)

I met dh on there :)

You just have to be a bit ruthless.... because it's free there are more people on it than elsewhere so proportionally more weirdos. Just use your block and delete buttons without shame and keep going....!

I'm to big fan of really checking the guys out and contacting the ones you really think you might click with rather than waiting around for all the weirdos to contact you. I was amazed by how many men 20+ years older than me thought it was 'worth a punt' contacting me. I also got some crazy abusive emails from one guy who asked me out and I politely said no and when he pressed me as to why I said it was because he had already had children and didn't want anymore. There are nutters out there so it's best to be proactive even though you may feel it's more 'ladylike' to wait for approaches.

If you'd asked a few weeks ago I would have sung POF's praises! Just split with (turned out to be a bit confused bless him) bloke after 7 months from meeting on POF. Still - can't blame the site! Enjoy it Wine

Just thought of another tip...
There are a few on OD sites that use fake photos, so check their profile pics on "Google reverse image search". Normally they'll just use one fake, but one filled his whole profile using ones taken from an American personal trainer's blog!

Oh, and if they give you an email address, google it. Interesting what can come up. Check it on FB too. So many don't have the privacy settings on and you can see all about them!

Met my fiancé on okcupid. It's free and there's questions you can answer to find your ideal. I was bunged up with flu and he was bored at work filling then in and we were a 96% match. Totally are too! I was only on it a week though so not sure how great it is and that was 4 years back.

Pof, for me, was full of weirdos and they all had shaved heads. Loads of pms asking for sex and pics, urgh. Met a life long friend on there though. My mates on it and got a message 'can I put my sausage between your bacon..?'.
