I am quite bothered by the way the DV storyline in Corrie has been handled. It's hard enough convincing women that they will be believed, and for a man to come forward must take terrific strength as there is still a certain 'stigma' attached that a man must be a wimp for it to happen etc. It seems they are discouraging men from speaking out. There's just something about the whole thing that feels.... I don't know what word I need!
Also the way he is being prevented from even supervised access seems like it's been written by F4J. Kirsty is their ideal campaign face.
I'm avoiding watching now. I just feel the truth should have come out already. Anyone, man or woman should know there is support out there, they will be believed and they won't lose their children if they speak out about DV.

I agree it's shit!

I thought it was very wrong that they started tyrones affair in the middle of it, it started to paint him in a bad light now he has run off with the baby Hmm

I think they were betting to much on him being a much loved character that everyone would have sympathy for but they have made him out to be a twat and lost all the good publicity that could have come from this

I hate this storyline, it makes me so angry. From my point of view, it seems that the writers are saying that manipulative abusers can turn the situ on the victim and be believed, which of course can and does happen, however, they have dragged this out too long and it can become too disturbing for people to watch long enough to see a conclusion. I really hope they are going somewhere sensible with this.

Eastenders did a horrid domestic abuse storyline with Tanya and Max a few years back when she buried him alive. I was so angry at the time as many women face much worse and don't resort to that. The writers really need more guidance.

I'm glad it isn't just me. They should be encouraging people to come forward and get to safety.

"Anyone, man or woman should know there is support out there"

But there isn't, for men particularly. There are 7,500 refuge places for women in England and Wales, but only 60 for men.

Support doesn't have to be a refuge place, and there needs to be more done. I have been there myself, and I know what it takes to get out. There needs to be much more available to people, and such a negative take on this storyline is not going to encourage anyone to speak out / get help. I feel this storyline is a step back and not forward.
