yikes, quick help needed - fixed term contract, given notice today - any HR people out there?

Have been given notice today, am employed on a fixed term contract (originally 12-14 months) which was renewed for further 10 months. Have been given 2 months notice today, which will take me to end Sept. My contract was due to end end Oct. Is this ok? do they have to do anything else or just give me notice like this?
