If it is an outplacement agent, they would typically assist with advice on CV, interview techniques and how to deal with job offers. They can also advise on going into self-employment or making a career change.
They are not recruitment agents, and don't actually assist with putting your dh in touch with potential employers.
KEAWYED, check out this link re:
jobseekers allowance.
My husband was made redundant a few weeks ago and had a similar thing.
They basically said what benefits he'd be entitled to and help with c.v.
Mind you the benefits side is a joke he's worked all his life never claimed and its now been nearly 6 weeks and they've still not told him what he can claim.
Good Luck
My company is paying for a consultant to help us soon-to-be-made-redundant with some career advice. Does anybody know what that means? Are they actually helping us to find another job or is it likely to CV workshops etc.?
