Wanting to make my own sweets to put into favour boxes...

(12 Posts)
Has anyone got any reciepes/ideas, and give me an idea of the max time before the wedding I can make them?

I only need 40(ish) of whatever it is, so am wondering whether it would be cheaper and easier to go to Thortons blush
Geordieminx, it's too sweet for me, but it's always a best seller at school fairs.

I can only ever have a nibble of that square you get with coffee after a meal in some places.

Lots out there, but try this

Make a trial batch - has the advantage of being quite cheap to make, plus it can be tricky to get it icey, rather than gloopy.

Says they keep for 3 weeks, but I've never left them around for that long! Also you will be pleased to note that you don't actually have to heat anything up.
Oooooo How do I do coconut ice? And how long will it keep? ((((GM has visions of making coconut ice on the morning of her wedding)))))
Mrs Muddle, thanks for the offer... despite the name I actually live in Glasgow, so am familiar with tablet the kids round here are weaned on it grin
Tablet? It's very sweet, and a bit fudge like, but a much nicer texture. There are recipes on t'internet, but if you want to try it out, you can CAT me and I'll post you a bar.

Oh crap, in that case, no!

What about liquorice or liquorice allsorts in silver paper? Have no idea how you'd make those at home, though... although some bits of shop-bought liquorice with plain white coconut ice would look stunning in silver paper/boxes, and taste a bit like the big round ones in liquorice allsorts.

Damn, now I want some liquorice allsorts!
Wedding colours are black and silver.. perhaps not the best colours to dye.... blush

I am trying hard to think of home-made sweets that won't leak a spot of fat or oil inside a favour box... and failing, sorry! Greaseproof paper should help.

Apart from fudge, what about coconut ice (which you could dye to your weddings colours if appropriate, rather than the usual pink & white) or peppermint creams?

Fudge & coconut ice are traybakes so quite quick and easy, whereas peppermint creams will need a bit of shaping, so more of a faff.
Tbh, that wouldnt be any cheaper than thorntons, and I already jhave the wee boxes, so retro sweets wouldnt look great in them.

Am thinking truffles/fudge type thing?

Emphasis: To bold a word, surround it with asterisks, so *hello* will display hello. For underline use _ , so _hello_ gives hello. For italics use ^, so ^hello^ gives hello. To strike out a word, surround it with two hyphens either side, so --dog-- gives dog

Links and smileys: To insert a smiley face, , type [smile] or :)

Links The simplest way to insert a link is to enter the link itself, surrounded by [[ and ]]. So if you type [[www.mumsnet.com]], the link will display as http://www.mumsnet.com. If you want your link to display text other than the web address itself, leave a space after the address then add the text before the ]]. So "Look at [[www.mumsnet.com this page]]", would display "Look at this page".
