This has perplexed me a bit. It doesn't take much .

He has some of the quavery bits of old Tony's voice though.

Oh no! Really? I always feel sad when I hear things like that. The actors and their voices feel like part of the family somehow - I hear them at least once a day.

I don't listen to it but read about it in the paper. The character will now be played by someone else.

Here. I like him, but I know what you mean. Tony had come to sound very old I think. Apparently the actor was 15 years older than the character, so inevitable really .

In a way I would have no qualms about Tony popping his clogs...

It would shake up Tom, Helen and Pat of course, but what Tony does most is moan, and let's face it, his health has been less than great (whether that was a story line because of real life, I don't know), so it would be quite easy.

Shock of Tony passing away before Peggy would take her, too... (not that I begrudge the actors their parts, but it would lead to some major changes and new storylines).
